Gold Numbers attempts to answer some frequently asked questions on 0845 numbers.
“Telephone numbers used to be relatively simple” says Richie Williams of Gold Numbers. “Now there is a multitude of different numbers out there. 01 and 02 numbers are geographic area codes, 07 numbers are mobile phone numbers, 08 numbers are either freephone numbers or special services, 09 are premium rate services and 03 numbers are non-geographic national numbers charged at geographic call rates. We are therefore continuing our series of FAQs about phone numbers by looking at the 0845 number”.
Why would I want a 0845 number?
The key feature of 0845 numbers is that it is free to receive a call on a 0845 to landline number, whilst the caller pays a low cost of around 3 – 5p if they call from a landline. They also give a company an overall national number, saving them on having to produce lots of different adverts with lots of different numbers.
How much does it cost for a Gold 0845 number?
For a Gold 0845 to landline number we charge a £5 + VAT one off set up fee, and then £5 + VAT per month rental. If you have a Gold 0845 to mobile number then it is still £5 + VAT per month rental fee, but there is a one off £10 + VAT set up fee.
Once I get one, am I stuck with it forever?
Not at all, there is no long term contract and you only need to give 30 days written notice at any time to cancel. We then disconnect the number and send you a final invoice. Upon receipt of payment your account is officially closed.
How much do I have to pay per call?
You don’t have to pay to receive the call if you have a 0845 to landline number. However, if you have a 0845 to mobile number then you pay 16p + VAT per minute to receive the call, although this increases to 27p + VAT per minute if you are on the 3Mobile Network.
I don't have a landline number and I don’t want to pay mobile charges, is there any other option such as Skype or VOIP?
Yes, you can always have the calls pointed to a Skype or VOIP number which will cost the same as if you had a landline number.
What’s this Fax to Email Service I’ve been hearing about?
Gold 0845 numbers offer a brilliant Fax to Email Service. This means that all your faxes go straight to your email inbox, which means that you do not have to leave a fax machine on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week wasting electricity for your company. It saves you on paper, ink and toner because you only print it out if you want to, and it saves you on people time because you haven’t got to keep checking the fax machine to see if a fax has arrived. At the same time, it still means that you can give out a fax machine number, allowing people to send you a fax, thus still looking professional and like any other business. Your 0845 Fax to Email number is separate from your 0845 telephone number, and you pay a one off £5 + VAT set up charge, and then £5 + VAT per month rental. You pay 4p per minute to receive your faxes.

When I order my number will I have it connected on the same day?
As long as you order you number during normal working hours between Monday and Friday then we will aim to connect the number within the hour.
Can I have my destination number changed and how much does it cost?
We are happy to change your destination number during normal working hours, Monday – Friday. You can do this quickly and easily by clicking on the "Repoint my number" form on the right hand side of every page of the Gold 0845 Numbers website. There is a small administration fee of £5.00 + VAT which is added to the next monthly invoice.
If I wish to add a feature at a later date is this possible?

How can I pay?
You can pay by credit or debit card or by direct debit.
If I sell my business can the new owner take over the number?
Yes. If this is the agreement between yourselves and the new owner with your permission in writing to us we will transfer the number.
